The error message, This field contains an invalid character, when submitting the P11D, is most often caused by spaces or dashes in the employee's first or surname fields. To generate a report to view this data, follow the steps below.
Employees report
Click Employees, and then click Reports.
Click the Employees header.
Next to the employees report, click the Search
icon.Click Export to CSV.
Review the list of employee names, looking for non-letter characters or spaces at the beginning or end of a name. If you find a name that needs correcting, follow the steps below.
πNote: Double-barreled names will need to be split by using the middle name field where possible; hyphens or spaces in the name fields are not allowed on the submission.
Click Employees, and then click Records.
Find the required employee and click the View Record
icon.Click the Personal tab, and then click Edit
.Change the name as required.
Click Save.
