Set up and process shared parental pay

How to process shared parental pay (ShPP).

Shared parental leave (ShPP) allows parents to share leave after the birth of a baby or adoption. During their shared leave, they may also be eligible to receive ShPP.

  • For full details on eligibility and entitlement, visit HMRC's website.

  • Shared parental pay can not be paid alongside paternity pay in the same period. Ensure you have entered the date correctly in the records to avoid crossover.

To set up ShPP, follow the steps below.

  1. Click Employees, and then click Records.

  2. Find the relevant employee, and click View Record .

  3. Click the Parental Pay tab.

Paternity

A parental record must be present, without a finish date, for shared leave to be created.

  1. Click the Edit icon next to the active parental record.

  2. Click the Partner Info tab.

  3. Enter the SAP/SMP/MA start date, and then enter a curtailment date.

  4. Enter the partner's information.

    • Surname

    • Forename

    • NI Number

  5. Click the Shared tab.

  6. Click Insert new record.

  7. Fill out the required information.

    • Date From.

    • No. of Weeks.

    • Person.

  8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for each period of shared leave requested

  9. Click Save, and then click Yes.


Maternity

A parental record must be present, without a finish date, for shared leave to be created.

  1. Click the Edit icon next to the active parental record.

  2. Enter a curtailment date, then click Yes.

    πŸ“ŒNote: The curtailment date must be at least 2 weeks after the first date of leave.

  3. Click the Partner Info tab.

  4. Enter the partner's information.

    • Surname

    • Forename

    • NI Number

  5. Click the Shared tab.

  6. Click Insert new record.

  7. Fill out the required information.

    • Date From.

    • No. of Weeks.

    • Person.

  8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for each period of shared leave requested.

  9. Click Save, and then click Yes.
